Driver Flor Javalde was named Maui Economic Opportunity Employee of the
Month for July for “those simple gestures of kindness, respect and
integrity (that) turn a bus ride into a great experience.”
Transportation co-worker Mele Tu`ifua nominated Flor for the honor, saying
he was “Mr. Go Kindness,” exhibits a positive attitude and possesses
integrity, strong work ethic and humility.
“When I see his smile in passing and I know that if I can feel his
kindness, so can his clients,” she said.
Flor joined Transportation, MEO’s largest department, in June 2019. MEO
operates the Maui Bus paratransit for persons with disabilities and the
specialized Human Services system that runs in rural areas, such as
Moloka`i, Lana`i, and East Maui, and offers rides to jobs, doctor’s
appointments, youth and kupuna activities.
For being named Employee of the Month, Flor earned a $150 check and an
extra day off. Mele received $50 as Flor’s nominator. The announcement was
made at the staff general meeting on June 24.
