Maui Economic Opportunity, Inc., commits itself every day to its role as Maui County’s comprehensive anti-poverty agency. As a private non-profit Community Action Agency (CAA) chartered in 1965, MEO serves community needs well by keeping up with trends and best practices through its networks as one of four CAAs serving Hawaii and a longstanding part of a nationwide network of CAAs.

MEO’s dedicated staff brings to life the mission to “strengthen the community while helping people in need restore their hope, empowering them to reach their potential and enrich their lives.”

MEO serves more than 23,000 individuals and families, touching more than 69,000 lives across Hawai’i. MEO provides tools for living, earning, self-reliance and community involvement for populations in need, including children, youth, elderly, persons with disabilities, immigrants, offenders, and the economically disadvantaged.

Donor Privacy Policy- 2025

At Maui Economic Opportunity, Inc. (MEO), we are committed to protecting the privacy of our donors. This policy outlines how we collect, use, and safeguard your personal information.

  1. Information Collection:

We collect information from donors through various channels, including our website, donation forms, and during fundraising events. This information may include:

    • Name
    • Contact information (address, phone number, email)
    • Donation details (amount, date, payment method)
    • Other information provided by the donor (e.g., communication preferences, interests)
  1. Use of Information:

We use donor information for the following purposes:

    • Processing donations and issuing receipts,
    • Maintaining donor records and communication,
    • Recognizing donors (unless anonymity is requested),
    • Reporting to relevant authorities as required by law, and
    • Improving our programs and services.
  1. Sharing of Information:

We do not sell, trade, or share donor information with any third parties, except:

    • When required by law or legal process.
    • In the event we use service providers to assist us in processing donations or managing donor communications (and only to the extent necessary for them to perform their services).
    • When donors explicitly authorize us to share their information.
    • MEO does not store credit card data in its database.
  1. Donor Rights:

Donors have the right to:

    • Access their personal information held by us.
    • Request corrections to inaccurate or incomplete information.
    • Request deletion of their personal information.
    • Opt-out of receiving communications from us.
    • Request anonymity in donor recognition.
  1. Data Security:

We employ industry-standard security measures to protect donor information from unauthorized access, use, or disclosure. We regularly review and update our security practices.

    • Donations made through the MEO website are protected by Paypal.com, a leader in online financial transactions.  Each donation is encrypted and monitored by Paypal to insure the Donor is protected.
    • Donations made during the Annual Gala are collected through Square. Each donation is encrypted and monitored by Square to insure the Donor is protected.
    • Once received the Donor list is maintained on firewall protected internal drive. The firewall is updated regularly.
    • Only designated administrative staff responsible for managing donations have access to the list.
    • The Donor list is password protected.

We may update this policy periodically. We will post any changes on our website and notify donors as appropriate.
