The National Farmworker Jobs Program Rocky Mountain HI Coalition Conference got underway Tuesday at the Hyatt Regency Waikiki. MEO played a major role in organizing the regional conference with 75 attendees from across the Western U.S.
Lt. Gov. Sylvia Luke offered opening remarks at the conference, whose theme was “Feeding You And Me: Honoring Our Farmworkers.” Among the speakers is Tiare Lawrence, director of community relations for Mahi Pono. Community Services Director Cassi Yamashita and her team made ti leaf lei for all 75 attendees.
MEO has been involved in national farmworker organizations since the early 1990s when the nonprofit assisted immigrant farmworkers recruited to work in the pineapple fields on Maui.
