MEO thanks retiring Sen. J. Kalani English for his years of service in support of MEO and Maui County
Maui Economic Opportunity wishes to thank retiring state Sen. J. Kalani English for all he has done in the County Council and the state Legislature to support and help the kupuna, youths, persons with disabilities, immigrants and other disadvantaged residents in the community served by the nonprofit MEO.
In his career in government service, he has truly been “Helping People. Changing Lives.” in the best traditions of MEO.
Senator English was recognized by MEO as a Kupuna Advocate in 2020. “He has always looked out for the Kupuna and supported programs that would help make their lives better,” the award noted.
“Senator English has been a friend of MEO and our clients throughout the decades he has served in public office, from the Maui County Council to the state Senate,” said Debbie Cabebe, CEO of MEO. “He has been supportive of our needs and our causes and has asked MEO to assist him with programs in his district, which we were glad to help with.”
For example, he supported the state purchasing of three new buses for MEO on Molokai.
“We will miss working with Senator English but have only best wishes for him in retirement and for his good health,” Cabebe said.
