Hula and a presentation on “Social Security 101” highlighted the monthly Maui County Planning & Coordinating Council meeting June 12 at MEO Wailuku. Dancers Loretta Cho, Edwina Wilson-Snyder and Beverly Rominas extolled the benefits of hula (Happy, Healthy, Healing) before performing “Ulupalakua.”
Jane Burigas of the Social Security Administration gave her “Social Security 101” presentation and answered questions about the future of the trust fund. She said that the system is fully funded through 2035.

Unable to walk as a child due to polio, a doctor suggested Beverly Rominas take up hula. Kumu Hula Emma Sharpe took her on as a student and taught her to walk and hula. Beverly would later dance hula professionally.
