Twenty six members of our Head Start preschool staff attended the Maui Early Childhood Conference, put on by the Hawaii Association for the Education of Young Children, on March 11 at Kamehameha Schools Maui.
HIAEYC is an affiliate of the National Association for the Education of Young Children and is a non-profit that supports and promotes quality education and professionalism in early childhood programs. Our own Alex Domingo is president of HIAEYC.
The theme of this year’s conference was “Connecting to Place: Engaging Places to Learn.” There were a variety of workshops, including connecting to the ‘aina through hands-on learning and the power of our voices through advocacy.
The annual conference is an opportunity for Professional Development and a means for growing leadership within our community. We had a number of first-time presenters from our early childhood community, including our very own Evelyn DelValle. She is a teacher and a former Head Start keiki!
