Head Start staffer Maile Fevella, whose day could start at any of the 8 preschool sites on Maui, was named Maui Economic Opportunity Employee of the Month.
“Maile is an unbelievably flexible person who has the willingness to learn,” said her nominator Kalena Brown. “When she is needed somewhere, she will be there with a smile on her face.”
Part of her job is to fill in at Head Start sites in Central, West and Upcountry Maui and Haiku when there are staffing shortages. Head Start, which offers preschool at no cost to income-qualifying families for 3 and 4 year olds, maintains a staff of three at each site.
Maile joined MEO full-time in November 2022 as a Head Start Education Administrative Specialist.
“Although she is new to our program, she has shown all of MEO’s core values throughout her time here,” Kalena says. “She asks questions to learn more about the program and the best way to go about situations.”
For being named Employee of the Month for May, Maile earned a $150 check and an extra vacation day. She was honored at MEO’s General Staff meeting on June 28.
Kalena received $50 for nominating Maile.
