Informational sessions on the Maui County Agricultural Micro Grant Program 4.0, offering up to $25,000 in grants to small farmers and ranchers, will be held Wednesday at Maui Economic Opportunity and Wednesday, Oct. 11, at the Hannibal Tavares Community Center in Pukalani.

MEO Business Development Center staff will be conducting the sessions that both run from 5 to 6:30 p.m. 

Grant application and award information will be presented to help farmers and ranchers understand the process and the documents required.

Applications for the program will be available beginning, Tuesday, Oct. 17, on the BDC’s Agricultural Micro Grant Program webpage or in-person at MEO’s Wailuku office.

The deadline to submit applications is Thursday, Nov. 30.

The $3 million Maui County-funded program, administered by MEO’s Business Development Center, is open to operating farms on less than 12 acres and livestock ranches up to 40 acres possessing a county business or state general excise license as of July 1, 2023. Preference will be given to women and Native Hawaiians.

Maui Economic Opportunity has been administering the predominantly federally funded Maui Relief TANF Program in partnership with the state Department of Human Services since shortly after the Aug. 8, 2023, wildfires. The program provides housing, vehicle, utility, clothing, school supply and appliance assistance for those whose home or place of employment was damaged or destroyed by the wildfires or who lived or worked in the burn zone and were unable to return home or work due to the recovery efforts.

Radio personality Kathy Collins and Lahaina Honolua Senior Citizens Club President Hedy Udarbe will be honored as Kupuna Advocates of the Year at the 53rd annual Kupuna Aloha Luncheon on July 26.
The event is sponsored by the Maui County Planning & Coordinating Council, an umbrella organization made up of kupuna club officers countywide, with assistance from Maui Economic Opportunity. The event runs from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Grand Wailea.
