Maui Economic Opportunity Youth Services summer program kids, Big Brothers Big Sisters Bigs and Littles and Monkeypod Kitchen by Merriman staff joined in the E mālama I kō kākou moana “Save Our Ocean” beach cleanup on July 29.

Sixteen youths from MEO’s summer program, plus staff, were among the 43 total participants, who scoured Sugar Beach in Kihei from the condos to the Kealia Pond National Wildlife Refuge parking lot.

In all, the volunteers collected a pickup-truck full of trash, about 10 bags. There also was an old sink and hammock frame and a rotting pufferfish to dispose of.
