The morning rain did not dampen Maui Economic Opportunity Youth Services’ fifth annual gift wrapping event on Dec. 22, which raised $863 in donations.

Youth Services’ staff and intermediate and high school students wrapped hundreds of gifts. The money raised will go to Youth Services activities.

The program runs substance abuse prevention programs during school and after-school and summer and school breaks. Youths participate in drug- and alcohol-free activities that are fun, strengthen the family, embrace culture and reinforce healthy lifestyles. The goals of the evidence-based curriculum are to prevent or delay the age when youths begin smoking and drinking.
