Bryan Benz, an enrollee in Maui Economic Opportunity’s BEST (Being Empowered and Safe Together) Reintegration and Employment Services programs, was so excited to shop for work-related items – with the financial support of MEO – at Ross Dress for Less in Kahului on Tuesday.

He started working full-time as a stock clerk at the Maui Lani Foodland and made purchasing a pair of nonskid shoes his top priority. He shared that he slipped and fell while working over the weekend.

Along with a jacket, T-shirts and a few pairs of jeans, Bryan now feels fully equipped to keep and maintain his current job. Before getting the Foodland job, he washed dishes and cleaned cars.

“This one is definitely for keeps,” he said of his new job.

Bryan expressed his appreciation to MEO and its staff for the financial and emotional support, encouragement and training he has received since he was released after more than a decade of incarceration.
